On February 28th, 1984, Michael wore a blue sequined military jacket with gold accents complete with gilded sash. He combined this look with simple black pants and the famous loafers. He also wore his signature aviator glasses. Michael wore just one bedazzled rhinestone glove to the Grammy’s, setting off a massive trend. Not only did he get fashionistas buzzing, he also picked up a record-breaking 8 Grammy awards that night.
The same outfit came back on May 4th 1984 when he visited the White House as a guest of the president Ronald Reagan. Michael, who was 25 at the time, was given a plaque for his support of charities that helped people overcome alcohol and drug abuse. There was no moonwalking, but Michael was wearing his signature look of the early 1980s, the famous sequined military jacket. Michael was known for wearing these gorgeous jackets, several of which were designed by Bill Whitten. Funny fact is that some of them actually have his name on a little tag in the back and one of the bejeweled jackets weighs almost 15 pounds.
